Downtime and Creative Flow
Brainstorming is a process. How aggravating to our “everything in an instant” mindset! We figure that working harder can speed up the idea generation. So folks looking for ideas will stress themselves out trying to research one more topic, read one more book, interview one more person in the target market.
Believe it or not, rest, relaxation, and “downtime” actually speed up the whole process.
Sometimes your killer idea will appear out of nowhere two to three weeks after your big brainstorming session. Other times it may only take two or three days or even hours.
“Resting” your brain by doing something completely different and enjoyable allows the connections to link together unconsciously.
So many folks skip the fun and relaxation, assuming the light bulb will come on faster if they keep plugging away relentlessly. That mindset actually inhibits their creative flow.
What activity do you find humorous, fun, inspiring? A game of golf? Playing with your children? Skydiving? Gardening? Take a brain break and have a blast! You'll find ideas coming at you from all sides afterwards.
Enjoyment enhances idea generation.
Have some fun today!
